Peat and BBQ smoke. Banana bread with butter and vanilla cream. Sweet malt, minerals and rock salt. Rockmelon and roasted nuts. Cinnamon, nutmeg and white pepper. Honey, coconut and flowers right at the back.
Warm and full bodied. Oily and buttery smooth, followed by tart oak dryness. Salted caramel, liquorice and faint earthy peat. Lime juice, pepper and ginger. Poached pear and charred oak. There’s a weird sensation on the sides of my tongue, sort of like sherbet.
Anise, clove and cardamom. Floral peatiness and strong tobacco spice. Dry tannic oak. Long, slightly bitter and dry.
I had a dram of the PC7 after this and I prefer the younger Port Charlotte a little bit more. The PC10 is fruitier, but also drier with a lot more oak in the taste and finish. The PC7 packs more of a punch, is smokier and has a bit of meatiness.
This is a very nice dram, especially the nose! Dry and tannic on the palate but not too much.
