Wiser’s Legacy – J.P. Wiser’s Canadian Pinnacle Rye Blend

Don’t be fooled by the lack of an age statement, or the fact that it’s not the most expensive entry in the Wiser’s portfolio, Wiser’s Legacy may be the absolute best whisky that the company makes—and possibly the best Canadian whisky there is out there.

It’s made from the recipe that company-founder J.P. Wiser was working on just before his death—a rye-heavy whisky (actual rye, unlike some Canadian whiskies: the only non-rye content in Legacy is a small amount of barley to assist in the fermentation/distillation process) made using traditional copper pot stills and aged in fresh, toasted oak.

Aberlour 12 Sherry Cask – Highlands (Speyside) Single Malt Scotch

Originally posted to Reddit by TOModera

Awhile ago I wanted to be part of the Aberlour A’bunadh community review, and by chance a coworker was going to England. I wrote down the name (for some reason he couldn’t remember it), gave him the money (as it’s $30 cheaper there), and patiently awaited his return (okay, I wasn’t that patient).
As you can surmise, some guy at duty free read his note and handed him a different bottle. I wasn’t too sad, as the bottle of Aberlour 12 Sherry Cask was 1 L and cost less than a 750 ml in Ontario!

Yoichi 10 Review – A Highlander Single Malt from Japan

General Remarks: The Yoichi Distillery was built in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuri of Nikka Whisky. He studied Chemistry at the University of Glasgow between 1918 and 1920 and worked and learnt as apprentice at Distilleries like Longmorn and Hazelburn. Apparently he was very gifted because later on Masataka became a Master-Blender. Nowadays the Nikka Whisky Distilling Company is part of Asahi Breweries and also owns the Miyagikyo distillery in Sendai (Honshu). The Youchi 10 is the standard expression from the distillery and sells at around 70 US Dollars per bottle. The Yoichi 10 years matures in a mixture of new locally assembled Oak Hogsheads as well as Ex-Bourbon and Ex-Sherry Casks.

Yellow Spot 12yr Review – Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey

Yellow Spot has recently been reintroduced as a 12 year old whisky. It’s garnered a lot of praise since its release, even winning Whisky Advocate’s Irish Whisky of the Year Award. I liked it NAS brother Green Spot, but Redbreast 12, another single pot still whisky from Midleton Distillery, was a real favorite. I think Yellow Spot has a good chance to follow in those footsteps, especially considering that is presented at 46% ABV and is non chill filtered. Good stuff!
