Hi, folks! Longtime lurker finally getting around to sharing what I can. The inaugural review is for a Signatory bottling of Laphroaig. This is the product of a single refill butt cask (#4073 to be precise) holding whisky from September 18, 2000 to January 17, 2011.
It’s bottled at 46%, non-chill filtered, and has no added color, so it’s something of a fresh perspective on the regular 10yo distillery bottling. And so my notes on this end of day tipple had neat whilst relaxing on my couch at home…
- Nose – sweet molasses, charcoal, ash, mesquite
- Taste – limestone, seaweed, smoke, brine
- Color – weak yellow, lager-ish
- Finish – burnt spice, wet oak
Final Score – 91/100
This is Laphroaig in the raw and it shows! The added vigor smacks up against you like a coastal wave; refreshingly honest. Any Laphroaig fan looking to get “closer to the distillery” would have a fun time with a dram of this.
